E! News host Giuliana Rancic shocked fans Monday morning when she revealed to NBC’s Ann Curry that she has early-stage breast cancer.
"I never in my wildest dreams expected anything to be wrong," she said. "It was just a kick in the stomach."
Luckily, they found it early -- and her chances for recovery are high.
"I will be okay, because I found it early. I'm doing surgery this coming week, and then I go to radiation for six and a half weeks," she added.
Her husband, Bill Rancic, is extremely supportive.
"Thank you for all ur love & support today. G is reading all your messages. She will win this fight, I PROMISE, & be back better than ever!" he tweeted after the Today Show.
Fortunately, Rancic has plenty of celebrity friends to lean on -- several A-listers have battled breast cancer and won.
Christina Applegate
Up All Night stunner Christina Applegate was only 36 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008.
"It's hard to live quietly," she told Oprah of her battle. "I went through five weeks of work without telling anyone that this was going on in my life."
"My doctor said that the mammograms weren't enough for me because of the denseness of my breasts," she told Oprah. "He suggested that I get an MRI."
She was floored by the diagnosis. "They found some funky things going on [in one breast]. [The doctor said], 'It came back positive.'"
Luckily, the cancer was caught early and confined to one breast. She later underwent a lumpectomy and started radiation. Later tests showed that she was the carrier of the breast cancer gene BRCA.
"That sort of changed everything for me," Applegate told Oprah. "Radiation was something temporary, and it wasn't addressing the issue of this coming back or the chance of it coming back in my left breast. I sort of had to kind of weigh all my options at that point."
The new mother opted for a double masectomy to keep it from coming back.
"It just seemed like, 'I don't want to have to deal with this again. I don't want to keep putting that stuff in my body. I just want to be done with this," she said. "I was just going to let them go."
Now, Applegate fights for breast cancer awareness and founded her non-profit, Right Action for Women, to help all women get life-saving cancer screening.
Melissa Etheridge
Singer Melissa Etheridge found out she had breast cancer back in 2005.
"We all have this sense of invincibility. Even though my father, aunt and grandmother passed away from cancer -- it was all over my family -- I was surprised to hear the diagnosis. The possibility might have been somewhere in the back of my head, but I wasn't walking around thinking this would happen," the singer told Shape in 2009.
However, beating the disease had lasting positive impacts on her life.
"Once I overcame breast cancer, I wasn't afraid of anything anymore. I now have a different relationship with fear. There are only two things in our reality, love and fear. I try to make my choices out of love," she said.
Inspiring words to live by.
Cynthia Nixon
Sex and the City’s Cynthia Nixon didn’t reveal her battle with breast cancer until after she beat the deadly disease.
"I had a lumpectomy and then I had six-and-a-half weeks of radiation," the redhead told Good Morning America in 2008. "I didn't really want to make it public while I was going through it. I didn't want paparazzi at the hospital, that kind of thing."
She did admit that it scared her, though.
Sheryl Crow
Singer Sheryl Crow fought -- and won -- her battle with breast cancer after a 2006 diagnosis.
"When I first got diagnosed, I went to this great nutritionist who specializes in disease prevention and well-being, and I still incorporate her tips like eating omega-3s -- I eat salmon or other fish at least three times a week," Crow said of her post-cancer diet.
"It was a really personal blow, because I was newly out of a relationship and that made it more difficult to even fathom that I could be diagnosed with cancer. And this great friend told me one of the gateways to awakening is to allow yourself to experience your emotions," she said.
Now she’s an adoptive mother of two and keeps a reminder of her battle front-and-center.
"I kept my breast cancer tattoos -- where the radiation was lined up on my chest. Once in a while I look at it to remind myself that I have to put on my oxygen mask first before I put it on anybody else," she said.
Kylie Minogue
Australian singer Kylie Minogue had a high-flying career when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2005. However, her cancer went into remission after treatment and she was given the "all-clear" in 2010.
"Anyone who’s been through cancer or any other disease with surgeries and treatments knows you have constant reminders that this is not how it used to be. I think my path is written," she said in 2009.
